Specific pleasure of skiing
There is no need for Oberstaufen to hide behind its numerous winter sport opportunities that it has to offer. The 1843 meter local mountain, Hochgrat, is an insiders’ tip for freerider and off-piste skiers, with the 6 km ski slope being the longest in the region. The ski-run at the Hündle has even been used for World-Cup competitions. Most of the ski slopes are categorized as blue or red runs and are ideally suited to the average skier. Artificial snow can be produced in Steibis and Thalkirchdorf to guarantee great skiing when mother nature doesn’t obey. Oberstaufen boasts around 40 km of downhill pistes with one cable car for 4 people and one cable car for 8 people, a chair lift and 24 draglifts. On top of that there are at least 100 km of cross-country skiing tracks. The cross-country ski track at Kalzhofen is floodlit.
Winter hiking and winter relaxing
There are numerous activities for the non-skier in Germany’s only "Schroth Spa", a climatic health resort with so much to offer. Around 60 km of walking trails are prepared especially for winter walkers and Nordic walkers. There are eight snow-shoe trails and the sledge run at the Imberg provides great fun and entertainment. Due to the floodlights, it is even possible right through into the night. The wide range of winter activities such as snow –shoe trekking tours, sledge nights, alpine hut parties, flamed torch light walks, curling and sleigh rides are just a few examples of how much fun it can be during the winter season in Oberstaufen.
